First wife, Ann, nicknamed "Buttons," was an accomplished amateur golfer and won the 1950 Massachusetts State Championship in 1950, the same year the couple married.

Brother Ernie also played on the PGA TOUR, as did his cousin, Jim Boros.

Authored the instructional book Swing Easy, Hit Hard that came out in 1965.

On May 28, while riding in a golf cart at Coral Ridge CC not far from his Fort Lauderdale, Fla., home, suffered a fatal heart attack, dying at age 74.

Underwent a heart bypass to open a clogged artery in 1982.

Suffered a tragedy in September, 1951 when his wife, Ann, nicknamed "Buttons," died of a cerebral hemorrhage during childbirth.
