PGA TOUR Champions continues its 2024 season this week at the Chubb Classic in Naples, Florida. The Black Course at Tiburón Golf Club will play host to the 54-hole event, which runs Thursday to Saturday.

Here are three things to know about this week’s event:

    1. A long-running tradition

PGA TOUR Champions returns to Naples, Florida, for the 37th consecutive year, as the Chubb Classic presented by SERVPRO hosts the first full-field tournament of the 2024 season at Tiburón Golf Club’s Black Course. Tiburón Golf Club plays host for the fourth consecutive year after 11 courses hosted the tournament across the first 36 editions of the event.

    2. Alker on a run

2022 Charles Schwab Cup champion Steven Alker is looking to win his third straight PGA TOUR Champions event after winning the 2023 Charles Schwab Cup Championship and season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai. Should he win the Chubb Classic, Alker would become just the 10th player in Champions Tour history to win three straight events.

    3. A star-studded field

Aside from Steven Alker, plenty of talent will descend upon southwest Florida for the Chubb Classic. Reigning Charles Schwab Cup champion Steve Stricker will be in the field after a runner-up finish last year. Stricker won the event in 2021, the first year it was contested at Tiburón Golf Club. Padraig Harrington, who finished runner-up in 2023 with Stricker, is making his season debut after not playing the season opener in Hawaii. The field in Naples combines for 217 PGA TOUR Champions titles and five World Golf Hall of Fame members, including Harrington who was a part of the 2024 class.

    Tournament facts:

    • Course: Tiburón Golf Club (Black Course), par 72, 6,909 yards
    • Field: 78 players (54 holes)
    • Defending champion: Bernhard Langer (not in the field this week due to injury)
    • Purse: $1,800,000 (winner: $270,000)
    • Scoring records:
      • Low 18-hole score: 61, Tommy Armour III (2010, third round)
      • Low 36-hole score: 126, Kenny Perry (2012)
      • Low 54-hole score: 196, three times; last: Scott Parel (2020)
