Scheffler takes gold, Fleetwood silver, Matsuyama bronze at thrilling Paris Olympics

Scottie Scheffler delivered the best performance of his greatest year by rallying from four shots behind on Sunday with a 9-under 62 to win the Olympic gold medal in men's golf in a thriller at Le Golf National.

Once again, golf takes center stage at the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking its third consecutive appearance in the Summer Games and fifth appearance overall. After being inaugurally contested at the 1900 Paris Games, golf was discontinued following the 1904 St. Louis Games but then revitalized over a century later in 2016 in Rio. There, Great Britain's Justin Rose and South Korea's Inbee Park took home gold. Team USA won big at the 2020 Tokyo Games, where Xander Schauffele and Nelly Korda each captured gold.

This year, the world's best 60 male and 60 female golfers will converge on the iconic Le Golf National, where they'll represent their nations and vie for Olympic glory in two gripping 72-hole (no cut), stroke-play competitions.

International Golf Federation

Founded in 1958, the International Golf Federation (IGF) oversees international golf competitions, regulates the rules and promotes the development of the game worldwide. As the recognized federation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, it works closely with national golf organizations to advance the sport and coordinate events such as the World Amateur Team Championships.

Olympic Golf Rankings

The Olympic Golf Rankings (OGR) utilizes the Official World Golf Ranking (men) and Women’s World Golf Rankings to determine Olympic qualification. The top-15 world-ranked men and women will qualify, with a limit of four players from a given country. Beyond the top 15, a maximum of two eligible players from each country (that does not already have two or more players from the top 15) will qualify, with a field limit of 60 players.

Le Golf National

Sitting just outside of Paris in Guyancourt, France, Le Golf National is renowned for its rich history and idyllic beauty. Architect Hubert Chesneau designed the GEO-certified course with showmanship – particularly for spectators, media and television coverage — in mind. Since its opening in 1990, Le Golf National's Albatros course has played host to the Open de France — the oldest national open in continental Europe on the DP World Tour — since 1991 as well as the 2018 Ryder Cup and World Amateur Team Championships.

USA Golf

Founded by the PGA TOUR, PGA of America, LPGA and USGA, USA Golf is the national governing body for golf in the United States. It sets bylaws and codes of conduct, and its mission is to pursue competitive success in Olympic, Paralympic and Pan American competition and contribute to the development of future elite American golfers.
