Max Homa wins Fortinet in bizarre finish
Max Homa won the Fortinet Championship by one shot on Sunday in dramatic fashion at Silverado Resort and Spa, collecting $1.44 million in official earnings and picking up 500 FedExCup points to lead the standings after the season opener.
Homa, who was +1400 on BetMGM Sportsbook pre-tournament, claimed his fifth PGA TOUR win, and second Fortinet Championship after chipping in from 32’10” for birdie on the 72nd hole before watching former Masters champion Danny Willett three-putt from just outside three-feet to hand him victory.
Homa becomes the second player, behind Brendan Steele, to successfully defend at the Fortinet Championship.
Willett’s bogey on the 72nd hole cost him a chance at his first TOUR win since the 2016 Masters, instead he settled for 300 FedExCup points and $872,000. He moves to second in the new season long points standings.
