Widing will be a first-time PGA TOUR member in 2025
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida — Tim Widing is the first Korn Ferry Tour member to achieve #TOURBound status and secure PGA TOUR membership for the 2025 season, as announced Tuesday by the Korn Ferry Tour.
Widing (pronounced VEE-ding) won back-to-back starts in April, earning his first Korn Ferry Tour win via a three-way playoff at the 2024 LECOM Suncoast Classic, and following it with a record-setting victory at the 2024 Veritex Bank Championship a week later. In addition to the two wins, Widing has a pair of T8s and T11s in his 11 starts on the Korn Ferry Tour this season, effectively assuring him of a top 30 finish on the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour Points List.
Should Widing earn a third victory prior to the conclusion of the 2024 season, he will earn an immediate promotion to the PGA TOUR.
In a dominant four-stroke victory at the Veritex Bank Championship, Widing set Korn Ferry Tour records for lowest score relative to par (31-under), most birdies in a 72-hole event (33), and the most birdies and eagles in a 72-hole event (34). Widing’s 72-hole score of 253 at Texas Rangers Golf Club in Arlington, Texas, marked the second-lowest 72-hole score in Tour history, only trailing Stephan Jaeger’s 30-under 250 from the 2016 Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae.
Widing is also set to make his second major championship appearance of the season at next week’s U.S. Open, as the 26-year-old Swede earned co-medalist honors (with fellow Korn Ferry Tour winner Isaiah Salinda) at the Woodmont Country Club Final Qualifying site in Rockville, Maryland. Last month, Widing played the 2024 PGA Championship via a special exemption, which marked the first such exemption awarded to a Korn Ferry Tour member since Sungjae Im in 2018.
A native of Jonkoping, Sweden, Widing took over the No. 1 position on the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour Points List with his win at the LECOM Suncoast Classic, and his current total of 1,341 points has him 240 points ahead of No. 2 Harry Higgs, 436 points ahead of No. 3 Steven Fisk, and more than 500 points (equal to a win in any of the 22 events preceding the Korn Ferry Tour Finals) ahead of No. 6 Quade Cummins.
While the top 30 players on the final 2024 Korn Ferry Tour Points List will earn PGA TOUR membership for the 2025 season, the player who finishes No. 1 earns fully exempt membership and exemptions for the 2025 PLAYERS Championship and 2025 U.S. Open.
Widing turned professional in 2021 after five seasons at the University of San Francisco, where he won three collegiate titles and was a four-time All-West Coast Conference First Team selection. While at San Francisco, Widing made his PGA TOUR debut at the 2021 Genesis Invitational, which he played via a last-minute sponsor exemption after a playoff loss to Angus Flanagan in the Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase.
Widing spent the 2022 season on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica – which has since merged with PGA TOUR Canada and formed PGA TOUR Americas – and finished No. 33 on the Order of Merit. Widing earned Korn Ferry Tour membership and guaranteed starts for the 2023 season with a T29 finish at Final Stage of the 2022 Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament (now known as PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry). As a rookie last season, Widing finished No. 46 on the 2023 Korn Ferry Tour Points List, which earned him fully exempt membership for the 2024 season.
The 2024 Korn Ferry Tour season continues this week with the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD SYNNEX, the 13th of 26 scheduled events.
The finalization of the points list and awarding of the 30 PGA TOUR cards will take place upon conclusion of the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour Championship presented by United Leasing & Finance, scheduled for October 3-6 at French Lick Golf Resort in French Lick, Indiana.
