RALEIGH, N.C. – UNC Health and the Korn Ferry Tour announced Wednesday a two-year extension for UNC Health to remain the title sponsor of the UNC Health Championship presented by STITCH through at least 2027.
The 2025 UNC Health Championship presented by STITCH will run from May 29 to June 1 at Raleigh Country Club. The tournament, first played in 1994 and previously known as the Rex Hospital Open, unveiled its current name and moved to Raleigh Country Club in 2023.
“UNC Health is proud to continue serving as the title sponsor for one of our state’s most exciting sports and charity events,” said Dr. Wesley Burks, CEO of UNC Health. “Our partnership with the Korn Ferry Tour has been a huge success and helps further our mission of improving the health and wellbeing of all North Carolinians.”
Proceeds from this year’s UNC Health Championship will support the development of North Carolina Children’s. This new enterprise will include the state’s only freestanding children’s hospital. UNC Health recently announced it would partner with Duke Health on the project, which is expected to open in the early 2030s.
Proceeds will also support the Poe Center for Health Education, First Tee - Triangle, Southeast Raleigh Promise, Alliance Medical Ministry, Boys & Girls Clubs Wake County, the Grayson Murray Foundation and the United Service Organizations.
“We are grateful to have UNC Health as part of the Korn Ferry Tour family, and we appreciate the strong partnership that's been built over many successful years together,” said Korn Ferry Tour President Alex Baldwin. “We are thrilled this tournament will continue supporting UNC Health and the new North Carolina Children’s Hospital, and we look forward to seeing the incredible work they do in the Triangle community
The UNC Health Championship presented by STITCH features a 156-player field and is a key midseason stop on the Korn Ferry Tour schedule. Notable past champions of the event include PGA TOUR winners Davis Thompson (2022), Trey Mullinax (2016), Chesson Hadley (2013), James Hahn (2012), Eric Axley (2005), Mark Hensby (2000), and Brian Bateman (1998).
Raleigh Country Club, a historic Donald Ross-designed course renovated by Kyle Franz in 2020, quickly became one of the toughest courses on the Korn Ferry Tour upon its addition to the annual schedule in 2023. In terms of scoring average relative to par, Raleigh Country Club ranked as the sixth-toughest course on Tour in 2023 (+0.292) and the second-toughest course on Tour in 2024 (+1.358).
Kaito Onishi, winner of the 2024 UNC Health Championship presented by STITCH, finished at 8-under 272 for a one-stroke victory over Max McGreevy. Both Onishi and McGreevy earned PGA TOUR membership at season’s end with their respective finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List. Onishi was one of two Korn Ferry Tour winners last season with a winning total fewer than 10 strokes under par, with the other being Braden Thornberry (9-under par) at the season-ending Korn Ferry Tour Championship presented by United Leasing & Finance.
