UNC Health Championship presented by STITCH: Things to know, tournament facts and more

The Korn Ferry Tour heads to Raleigh, North Carolina, for the UNC Health Championship presented by STITCH, the 12th event of the Tour’s 26-event season. This week marks the 30th playing of the UNC Health Championship, with Raleigh Country Club hosting for the fifth time. At the end of the 26-event Korn Ferry Tour season, the top 30 players on the season-long race will be awarded PGA TOUR cards for the 2025 season. See three key storylines below as the season heats up.

1. North Carolina ties

Numerous players in the field played collegiately in the state of North Carolina, including Ryan Blaum (Duke), Patrick Cover (UNC-Wilmington), Brett McLamb (Campbell/North Carolina State), Blake McShea (UNC-Wilmington), Pontus Nyholm (Campbell), Julian Suri (Duke) and four players from the University of North Carolina (Ryan Gerard, Austin Hitt, Carter Jenkins and sponsor exemption David Ford).

2. TOUR cards within grasp

The Points List is headlined by current No. 1 Tim Widing and No. 2 Harry Higgs, who have both pulled away as the only multiple-time winners this season. Widing was the first player this season to record multiple victories after winning the LECOM Suncoast Classic and the Veritex Bank Championship in back-to-back weeks. Higgs joined Widing as the only players this season with multiple wins after claiming victory at the AdventHealth Championship and the Visit Knoxville Open. In each of his victories, Higgs won in a playoff, becoming the first player in Korn Ferry Tour history to win back-to-back tournaments in a playoff.

3. Players back for revenge

Six of the 10 players who finished T8 or better in this event last year are in the field this week: Trent Phillips (2nd), John Augenstein (T3), Kyle Westmoreland (5th), Frankie Capan III (T6), Shad Tuten (T8) and Matt McCarty (T8). Westmoreland held a share of the 18- and 36-hole leads in Raleigh last year, but settled for a solo-fifth finish after playing the final two rounds at even par. Capan is coming off his best career finish from last week, a solo runner-up at the Visit Knoxville Open, where he fell to Harry Higgs on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff.
