Homa turns tables on Twitter, earns cash for St. Jude Children's Hospital

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Max Homa already has a victory at the World Golf Championships – FedEx St, Jude Invitational. He won Twitter.
After a disappointing 4-over 74 in the opening round on Wednesday, Homa was bombarded with tweets from upset fantasy golf players who had picked him this week.
The Wells Fargo Championship winner responded with a tweet saying: “I can’t emphasize enough how little I care about messing up ur guys’ fantasy golf lineups.”
The response stirred up a hornets nest with people pointing out a new partnership between the PGA TOUR and daily fantasy site DraftKings that was announced earlier this week.
But Homa was quick to clarify he has no issue with fantasy golf, in fact he welcomes it.
“I usually don’t like to respond but when it is misunderstood what I was saying – when I’m being told that I’m pooping on the TOUR’s new partnership – I was not doing that,” Homa said.
“I was just pooping on people that say I need to play better for their fantasy lineup. They need to draft better. Don’t pick me, it ain’t that hard. I hope people make money off me but if you don’t make money off me and you lose, it’s not my fault, it’s yours. Pick a better person. Pick Rory (McIlroy).”
During the discourse, things took a positive turn when Homa reaffirmed a previous commitment to donate $200 for every birdie he makes in the event to St. Jude. Several fans on twitter pledged their own donations for every birdie.
Despite a 3-over 73 on Friday, Homa had some reason to smile post round thanks to four birdies.
“It was nice to see through the discussion people show good colors and start raising money for a good cause,” he said.
“Obviously it kind of spun into a good thing so I am really happy that that happened and I’m proud of all the people that wanted to do it. I didn’t ask anybody, they just volunteered so that was pretty awesome.”
Homa says he will try to take any further criticism from daily fantasy players on the chin because he is in favor of the concept.
“It seems great. I’m a big fan of it. It’s awesome. It draws eyes. And obviously it gives people a reason to root for me,” he added.
“I am hoping it continues to bring more attention to golf, especially Thursday and Friday.”
