Astros Golf Foundation announces Butch Harmon as Houston Open honoree

    HOUSTON, TX - On Tuesday, July 23, the Astros Golf Foundation and Houston Open announced that renowned professional golf instructor, Butch Harmon, will be the Houston Open Honoree.

    “The Houston Open is about celebrating golf and celebrating Houston,” said Astros Golf Foundation President Giles Kibbe. “Butch and his family have a long history and strong connection to Houston. He has made an indelible mark on golf in Houston and throughout the world. It is our great privilege to honor him and have him as part of the Houston Open.”

    “Butch has been in golf a long time. He is tied to Houston and has been the number one golf instructor for years,” said Astros Owner and Chairman Jim Crane. “To put his name on the tournament gives us another reason to have a successful tournament and bring us one of the best tournaments on the TOUR, which is our goal.”

    Harmon has a long successful history in teaching the world’s best golfers and has left an incredible mark on the golfing world over the past 30 years. Harmon has been ranked #1 golf instructor by Golf Digest every year for the past 16 years. Harmon retired from teaching on the PGA Tour in 2019. He continues to teach from his teaching center in Las Vegas and he oversees the Butch Harmon Learning Center at The Floridian, Jim Crane’s prestigious golf club in Palm City, Florida.

    “I am honored to have the opportunity to help this city and help this tournament,” said Butch Harmon. “Houston means a lot to me, it is a great golf community and always has been. Having the Astros get involved is the greatest thing that could happen to this tournament. What Jim Crane has done with baseball in this city is incredible and I am excited to work with him, Giles and the Astros to do the same for the Houston golf community and make the Houston Open the greatest tournament on the TOUR.”

    Updates on this year’s tournament ticket options and hospitality areas were also revealed. The tournament’s Championship Play will take place Thursday, October 10 - Sunday, October 13. Prior to Championship Play, the tournament week will kick-off on Monday, October 7 with a private Pro-Am, presented by Houston Methodist. On Tuesday, October 8, fans can attend the practice round with FREE admission and parking. On Wednesday, October 9, fans will be able to watch the Championship Pro-Amwith a $25 all-day pass and free parking.

    For the rest of the week and Championship Play, there will be many new and exciting fan and hospitality areas for spectators to enjoy, thanks to the tournament’s many sponsors and partners. Below is a list of some areas fans are encouraged to visit.

    Corona Premier Cantina - located on the festive area of the 16th green, this area includes great food and beverage options.

    Michelob Ultra 19th Hole - this area includes covered seating areas, food and beverages options, and live music entertainment. Open to all fans.

    The Tailgate Zone featuring Tito’s Handmade Vodka - this area will have three jumbotron style digital boards with multiple sporting events featured throughout the week. There will also be many classic tailgate themed activities. Open to all fans.

    The Oxy Petroleum Military Appreciation Tent & Phillips 66 First Responders Appreciation Tent - both tents are located on the 18th green. Free and heavily discounted tickets are available for active military members and first responders.

    United Mileage Member Club - located along the 18th fairway, United Mileage Members have the ability to upgrade their tournament experience with access to this tent.

    City Card Membership Lounge - Citi cardholders will have access to this tent, located on the 18th fairway.

    Craft Corner on 17 and Food Truck Zone - this area will feature locally brewed craft beers and food trucks for fans to enjoy.

    In addition, the tournament will have exclusive gate giveaways Thursday-Sunday for 5,000 fans in attendance each day of Championship Play! Thursday, October 10 will feature a Houston Open Koozie(5,000 fans), Friday, October 11 will feature a Replica Tee Marker (5,000 fans), Saturday, October 12 will feature an Orange Rally/Golf Towel, presented by AmCap Home Loans (5,000 fans) and Sunday, October 13 will feature a Replica Trophy, presented by Schlumberger (5,000 fans).

    The Houston Open is also thrilled to share that the PGA TOUR recently announced that PGA TOUR LIVE will offer fans more access than ever before, adding more coverage to fall events, including the Houston Open. PGA TOUR LIVE is the PGA TOUR’s Over-The-Top subscription service that features more than 1,100 hours of live video from 35 PGA TOUR events. Fans can subscribe to PGA TOUR LIVE via NBC Sports Gold or Amazon Prime Video Channels, offering fans more viewing options and platforms than ever before.
