FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Former FedExCup champion Justin Thomas has withdrawn from the PGA Championship at Bethpage Black with a wrist injury.

Thomas – the 2017 PGA Championship winner – announced his decision Monday afternoon on his social media accounts.

“Unfortunately I will be withdrawing from the 101st PGA Championship at Bethpage Black this week as my wrist is not yet fully healed. Obviously, as a past Champion, this tournament is extra special to me,” Thomas wrote.

“It consistently has the strongest field in golf and I’m disappointed to not be among those competing this year but I’m optimistic about a return in the near future.”

Thomas, 26, is a nine-time PGA TOUR winner who currently sits 12th in the FedExCup despite not yet winning this season.

He has five top-10s from 11 starts including a runner-up finish at the Genesis Open and third-place finishes at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Thomas last played at the Masters where he finished T12.

He first hurt his wrist playing an awkward shot at The Honda Classic earlier this year.

Kelly Kraft will take Thomas’ spot in the field.
