Inside the Field: Genesis Scottish Open
4 Min Read
The PGA TOUR heads across the Atlantic for a two-week stretch of golf beginning with the Genesis Scottish Open and concluding with The Open Championship. The PGA TOUR will co-sanction the event with the DP World Tour for the third straight year, while The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, will serve as host once again. The event is one of two concurrent events co-sanctioned by the PGA TOUR and DP World Tour, which are also hosting the ISCO Championship in Kentucky.
Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy returns to defend his 2023 title after a triumphant victory last year over Scotland native and recent TOUR winner Robert MacIntyre, who aims to claim victory in his home country. World No. 3 and 2022 champion Xander Schauffele returns as a recent major winner.
The PGA TOUR uses a standardized system for determining event fields based on the current season’s Priority Ranking while also including additional exemption and qualifying categories.
Field sizes can vary by event, as can the number of event-specific exemptions. Fully exempt PGA TOUR members are guaranteed entry into all full-field events, with various conditional categories subject to periodic reshuffles based upon FedExCup Points accrued throughout the season. Categories with "reshuffle" notation indicate that a reshuffle period has occurred.
Note: An additional year of eligibility was granted to some categories because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
