Parsons Xtreme Golf (PXG) has launched its new line of Gen2 putters, which features eight different head models, three different hosel options, two finishes (black and chrome), and adjustable sole weights ranging from 5-20 grams. The various options within the line are available so golfers can find the putter they prefer, and the putter that best suits their stroke. That is, if they’re willing to get fit.
“Putts account for roughly 40 percent of shots taken, yet only a small percentage of golfers make an effort to be properly fitted,” Parsons said in a press release. “We’re working to change that stat. With the release of our exceptional new PXG GEN2 Putters, we are committed to helping golfers dial-in their preferred putter to help shave strokes off their score.”
Available head models in the new Gen2 line include the Closer, Lucky “D,” Brandon, Mustang, Bat Attack, Mini Gunboat, Gunboat, and Operator, while the hosels available are a double bend, plumber’s neck and heel-shafted. To dial in head weight for each player, tungsten and titanium interchangeable sole weights (5, 10, 15 and 20 grams) are available. Through its online ordering system, consumers can also choose dexterity, loft, lie, shaft length and grip.
New PXG staffer, 24-time PGA TOUR winner and 9-time major champion Gary Player discussed his putter fitting experience in a press release.
“When I was fitted for my PXG putter I tried various weights, hosels, lengths, and head shapes before settling on my specs,” Player said. “I now play the new PXG GEN2 Brandon with a plumber’s neck. It’s been a long time since I have been this comfortable with a putter.”
For enhanced performance, each of the Gen2 putters has PXG’s new variable-sized, pyramid pattern on its face. According to the company, the pyramid shapes are designed to “bite” into the golf ball cover for a better roll, and better sound and feel. Additionally, the variable sizes of the pyramids across the face are said to offset ball speed losses when the golf ball is struck off center.
PXG’s Gen2 putters start at $425 based on its online ordering system, with weight kits available for purchase, as well. Golfers can also choose to get fit, which is the most advisable way to purchase a new golf club, especially for those who don’t know their full specs.
