Player signs 14-club equipment deal with PXG

Three-time Masters champion (1961, 1974 and 1978) and 24-time PGA TOUR winner Gary Player has signed with golf equipment company PXG (Parsons Xtreme Golf). Player will compete in The 2019 Masters Par 3 Contest, and hit the ceremonial opening first tee shot, with 14 PXG clubs in the bag.

“Golf is a puzzle without an answer,” Player said in a press release. “While I’ve been at it for years, I still haven’t the slightest idea how to play. However, I have learned that the tools you choose will go a long way toward putting together a better round. PXG clubs are my tools of choice for this chapter of my career. They are simply remarkable.”

Here are the clubs Player will have in the bag during The 2019 Masters festivities:

    • Driver: PXG 0811X Gen2 (9 degrees)
    • Fairway Woods: PXG 0341X Gen2 (15 and 18 degrees)
    • Hybrids: PXG 0317X Gen2 (22 and 25 degrees)
    • Irons: PXG 0311XF Xtreme Dark Gen2 (6-PW)
    • Wedges: PXG 0311T Xtreme Dark (50, 56 and 60 degrees)
    • Putter: PXG Gen2 Brandon (Black with a Plumber’s Neck)

Player joins PXG’s current PGA TOUR staff that includes Zach Johnson (2007 Masters champion), Charl Schwartzel (2011 Masters champion), Billy Horschel (2014 FedEx Cup champion), Ryan Moore, Pat Perez, James Hahn, Wyndham Clark and Scott Langley.

“Gary Player has had one of the most remarkable careers in golf,” PXG founder and CEO Bob Parsons said in a press release. “He personifies what PXG has set forth to accomplish – to be the finest example of excellence in the industry. I have tremendous respect for Mr. Player, and couldn’t be prouder to count him among the PXG Troops.”

The PXG Troops are known to wear all black and have all-black staff bags, so Player, known as “The Black Knight” due to his typical all-black attire, won’t have to make much adjustment on the apparel and accessory front.
