Points and payouts: Viktor Hovland earns $1.57M, 500 FedExCup points at Valspar Championship

Seems that Viktor Hovland has just been trolling us all along. Because c’mon...
Of all people, Hovland emerged with a victory at the Valspar Championship on Sunday.
Yes, and of course, he’s a multiple winner on the PGA TOUR – this is his seventh title in 115 starts as a professional – but he arrived at Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course with scores of 73, 76, 77, 72, 80 and 66 as his most recent six rounds across three starts. Each resulted in a missed cut for what was the first 0-for-3 skid of his career.
Now this? Now this!
Hovland paid off his share of the 54-hole lead with a 4-under 67 on Sunday that included a bogey-5 at the finishing hole to post 11-under 273. His one-stroke win over Justin Thomas is his first victory since he walked off the 2022-23 season with consecutive victories at the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship. Of note, he didn’t miss any cuts that season.
The 27-year-old from Norway is the latest to pay off the most faithful investors who slot permanent class above all other attributes. At +8000 to win pre-tournament at FanDuel, Hovland was tied for 28th-lowest in what ended up as a field of 154. Credit the house for letting out that leash. Now don’t expect it again for a long, long time as it concerns the champ.
Hovland banks 500 FedExCup points and $1,566,000 for this achievement. He’s already exempt into all Signature Events and all majors, but now he’s a lock to return to The Sentry in 2026. His membership exemption also extends one season through 2029.
Thomas was fourth-shortest at just +2000. He was fresh off a T33 at THE PLAYERS Championship where he had equaled the course record at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass with a 62 in the second round. At Copperhead, he closed in 65-66 with an eagle and 13 birdies on the weekend. This is his second runner-up finish of the season (AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am).

Jacob Bridgeman continued his hot play with a solo third. After opening the Florida Swing with a T2 at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, and then following with respective results of T15 and T50 in the second and third legs, he was a respectful +5500 to win the Valspar. His consolation is "low non-winner" in the anchor of the four-event series in the Sunshine State.
Tournament favorite Tommy Fleetwood (+1100) finished in a six-way tie for 16th place. Defending champion Peter Malnati (+100000) missed the cut by two shots.
Elsewhere...
Xander Schauffele showed life early to sit two swings back of Bridgeman’s 36-hole lead, and then fell way off the pace with a third-round 75. However, he recovered with a 6-under 66 to share low round of the finale en route to a T12.
Two-time champion and the tournament’s all-time earnings leader, Sam Burns, was +2200 to win, but for the second consecutive edition of the Valspar, he missed the cut on the number.
Luke Clanton (+8000) made his tournament debut and placed T42. The junior at Florida State University who recently secured his PGA TOUR card (when eligible after the collegiate season ends) via PGA TOUR University Accelerated is 3-for-5 on the season.
And for the second time in as many career PGA TOUR starts, Rasmus Neergaard-Peterson made the cut, adding a six-way T22 to his runner-up finish at the Puerto Rico Open. (That top 10 yielded his exemption at Copperhead.) The odds for the Dane to break through at the Valspar were +12000. His FedExCup points as a non-member now total 201.500, so he’s 57.819 points from qualifying for Special Temporary Membership.
