FREDERICTON, New Brunswick – The first round of the Explore NB Open has been postponed until Friday morning due to inclement weather, the PGA TOUR Americas Rules Committee announced Thursday afternoon. Round one will begin Friday at 7:30 a.m. AT, the second round will be played Saturday, and 36 holes will be played on Sunday in order to complete the 72-hole event.
Nearly three inches of rain fell in the Fredericton area Wednesday night and Thursday morning, and the PGA TOUR Americas Rules Committee deemed Mactaquac Golf Course unplayable for the day at 2:00 p.m. AT. Play never began on Thursday as the first group was scheduled for 7:30 a.m. local time.
“Despite our best efforts and the incredible work from the maintenance staff at Mactaquac Golf Course, the course has received too much rain to be deemed playable on Thursday,” said John Slater, PGA TOUR Americas chief referee. “I want to thank the maintenance team at Mactaquac for all their hard work in getting the golf course ready for competition. We look forward to beginning the first round of the Explore NB Open at 7:30 a.m. Friday and having a great rest of the week in New Brunswick.”
With 36 holes on Sunday, there will be a cut after Saturday’s second round. Pairings are expected to remain the same between the third and final round on Sunday. PGA TOUR Americas will contest its first-ever tournament in New Brunswick beginning Friday at 7:30 a.m. AT.
