Fresh out of an eighth-place finish on the 2024 PGA TOUR University Ranking, it took Frederik Kjetrrup only two starts to charge to the top of the Fortinet Cup standings. Two starts that translated into back-to-back wins at The Beachlands Victoria Open presented by Times Colonist and the ATB Classic only three events into his career as a pro. With 1000 points collected, the 24-year-old from Aabybro, Denmark, now holds a 133-point lead over Matthew Anderson, who had been in the lead since his win at the third event of the season in Brazil. The following is a look at the Fortinet Cup’s top 10 players and those who made significant moves in week 8 of the 16-week season:
1. Frederik Kjettrup, Denmark
Fortinet Cup Points: 1,000
Last week’s rank: 9th
Best finish this season: Won The Bechlands Victoria Open presented by Times Colonist and the ATB Classic
Only two tournaments into his PGA TOUR Americas career, Kjettrup has reached the top of the Fortinet Cup standings. His perfect North America Swing record is a result of back-to-back wins at The Bechlands Victoria Open and the ATB Classic. He is 37-under par through his first eight rounds on Tour, recording 48 birdies and only 11 bogeys. The Florida State University alum is the only player currently in a position to claim the tough-to-get three-win immediate promotion to the Korn Ferry Tour.
2. Matthew Anderson, Canada
Fortinet Cup Points: 867
Last week’s rank: 1st
Best finish this season: Won the ECP Brazil Open
In the Fortinet Cup lead since his victory at the ECP Brazil Open, Team Canada member Anderson saw Kjettrup move past him on Sunday. While Kjettrup won twice, the 24-year-old who dominated the Latin America Swing has struggled with consecutive missed cuts in Victoria and Edmonton. The week off will be a great opportunity for him to regroup heading into next week’s Explore NB Open.
3. Clay Feagler, United States
Fortinet Cup Points: 751
Last week’s rank: 2nd
Best finish this season: Won the Bupa Championship at Tulum
Coming off a solo third in Victoria, he got off to a hot start at the ATB Classic, firing a bogey-free 7-under to share the opening-round lead. A rough third round of 8-over got him out of contention and the tie for 52nd only earned him 7.2 Fortinet Cup points.
4. Harry Hillier, New Zealand
Fortinet Cup Points: 741
Last week’s rank: 3rd
Best finish this season: Won the Inter Rapidísimo Golf Championship
The PGA TOUR Americas leader in total birdies this season only managed to make six birdies through two rounds at Northern Bear Golf Club. At 2-over for the week, he saw a streak of four consecutive made cuts come to an end.
5. José de Jesús Rodríguez, Mexico
Fortinet Cup Points: 661
Last week’s rank: 4th
Best finish this season: Won the Totalplay Championship at Atlas CC
The leading Latin American player on Tour missed his first cut of the season at the ATB Classic. He followed an opening 2-under with a second round of 1-over to miss the weekend by only one shot.
6. Stuart Macdonald, Canada
Fortinet Cup Points: 634
Last week’s rank: 5th
Best finish this season: Won the Diners Club Perú Open
Making his first start of the North America Swing, he had a tough Sunday at Northern Bear to slip down to a tie for 64th at the ATB Classic.
7. Thomas Longbella, United States
Fortinet Cup Points: 628
Last week’s rank: 6th
Best finish this season: Won the Kia Open
Entering the final round of the ATB Classic in a tie for 22nd, he struggled on Sunday to drop into a tie for 47th.
8. Samuel Anderson, United States
Fortinet Cup Points: 589
Last week’s rank: 7th
Best finish this season: Solo second at the Diners Club Perú Open
Coming off his third top-10 of the season, a solo fourth finish in Victoria, he couldn’t get anything going at Northern Bear. With back-to-back rounds of 1-over, he missed the cut by four shots.
9. Conner Godsey, U.S.
Fortinet Cup Points: 554
Last week’s rank: 8th
Best finish this season: Tied for second at the ECP Brazil Open
In a tie for 13th after a second round of 6-under, he had a bit of a slow weekend, shooting 1-under for the final 36 holes. The tie for 15th earned him 53 Fortinet Cup points, his third most behind a tie for second in Brazil and a tie for third in Peru.
10. Mateo Fernández de Oliveira, Argentina
Fortinet Cup Points: 487
Last week’s rank: 12th
Best finish this season: Solo second at The Beachlands Victoria Open
Coming off a runner-up finish in Victoria, he had to put on a battle just to make the weekend at the ATB Classic. At 3-over for the tournament, he birdied five of his last 10 holes in the second round to make it right on the number. A strong moving day of 6-under was huge for him to finish a tie for eighth and record his third top-10 in his last four starts. He leapfrogged his countrymen Julián Etulain and Jesús Montenegro to break inside the Fortinet Cup top 10 for the first time this season.
Most significant moves outside the top 10:
15. John Keefer, United States
Fortinet Cup Points: 350
Last week’s rank: T58th
Best finish this season: Tied for second at the ATB Classic
The last man to make the 2024 PGA TOUR University top 25 is playing outstanding golf to start his pro career on PGA TOUR Americas. He followed a tie for fifth at the Victoria Open with a share of runner-up honors at the ATB Classic. His score of 30-under tied Fernández de Oliveira for the second-best aggregate through these past two events.
19. Tommy Cocha, Argentina
Fortinet Cup Points: 314
Last week’s rank: 85th
Best finish this season: Tied for second at the ATB Classic
In his second week competing out of the Monday Qualifier and with fiancée Jennifer Kirby as his caddie, the 33-year-old from Salta, Argentina, stayed inside the top three the entire ATB Classic. After a rough stretch of bogey on 12 and double-bogey on 13 got him out of the race for the title Sunday, he kept his composure for a birdie-birdie finish that secured a two-way tie for second. The 245 Fortinet Cup points earned allowed him to move from 85th to 19th in the season-long race to move up to the Korn Ferry Tour.
33. David Perkins, United States
Fortinet Cup Points: 198
Last week’s rank: T78
Best finish this season: Tied for fourth at the ATB Classic
The runner-up at the Dothan, Alabama Q-School in late May, Perkins has started his PGA TOUR Americas career with back-to-back top-10 finishes. He shot 15-under to tie for 9th in Victoria and then tied for 4th at the ATB Classic, where he shot 12-under. He joins Frederik Kjettrup, Mateo Fernández de Oliveira, and John Keefer in a group of four players who opened the North America Swing with two top-10s.
34. Brendan MacDougall, Canada
Fortinet Cup Points: 175
Last week’s rank: 101st
Best finish this season: Tied for fourth at the ATB Classic
The low Team Canada player at the ATB Classic, MacDougall took huge advantage of a sponsor exemption to tie for fourth at 12-under. Earning 122.5 Fortinet Cup points for his efforts at Northern Bear, he gained 67 spots in the standings, moving up from 101st to 34th. His best finish in his previous seven starts was a tie for 32nd at the Kia Open.
