    This week, PGA TOUR Americas will head to Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, for the eighth of 16 events and the second of 10 events belonging to the North America Swing, the ATB Classic. The winner will receive 500 Fortinet Cup points, with a purse of $225,000 ($40,500 winner).

    Players to watch

    Frederik Kjettrup (Denmark): Kjettrup won in his PGA TOUR Americas debut at The Beachlands Victoria Open presented by Times Colonist; Kjettrup finished No. 8 in the 2024 PGA TOUR University Ranking.

    Matthew Anderson (Canada): The Mississauga, Ontario, native has been No. 1 in the Fortinet Cup Points List since winning the 69th ECP Brazil Open in April; Anderson made his first cut as a professional at the 2023 ATB Classic, where he finished T13.

    Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira (Argentina): The Buenos Aires native carded the best finish of his professional career in Victoria, finishing second at 20-under par, after firing back-to-back rounds of 7-under 63 to close out the weekend.

    Chase Sienkiewicz (United States): Finished T5 at the 2023 ATB Classic; has three top-20 finishes this season, his best coming in a T3 at the Inter Rapídisimo Golf Championship.

    Cole Sherwood (United States): The No. 7 player in the 2024 PGA TOUR University Ranking will make his PGA TOUR Americas debut in Edmonton after making two starts on the Korn Ferry Tour; Sherwood appeared at the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD SYNNEX and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open.

    Ben Lorenz (United States): Another member of the PGA TOUR University class of 2024, Lorenz solidified his spot inside the top 25 after winning the NCAA Rancho Sante Fe Regional; Lorenz was not in the field in Victoria, and will make his PGA TOUR Americas debut at the ATB Classic.

    William Holan (Canada): An Edmonton native, Holan is in the field via a sponsor exemption. Holan won the individual Atlantic Sun Conference championship and led Lipscomb to their first conference title as a team in program history. Holan made his first PGA TOUR-sanctioned start as an amateur at the 2023 ATB Classic.

    Jorge Villar (Mexico): Finished T2 at the 2022 ATB Classic; Villar has five top-25 finishes this season in seven starts, and is currently No. 29 in the Fortinet Cup Points List.

    Tournament history

    Returning to the Northern Bear Golf Club for its second year, the ATB Classic became a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event in 2013. The event has featured current PGA TOUR members such as Tony Finau, Nick Taylor, Mackenzie Hughes and 2019 ATB Classic winner Hayden Buckley, as well as current Korn Ferry Tour member and 2023 ATB Classic winner Davis Lamb.

    This week’s field features five players who finished inside the top 15 at the 2023 ATB Classic event: Chase Sienkiewicz (T5), Noah Steele (T5), Sam Choi (T5), Matthew Anderson (T13) and Gunn Yang (T13). Anderson, the No. 1 player in the Fortinet Cup Points List, made his first career cut as a pro at Northern Bear in 2023.

    Fortinet Cup overview

    The ATB Classic is the second stop of the North America Swing and the eighth event of the season. The 10-event North America Swing is comprised of nine events in Canada and one in the United States. The 156-player field features 54 of the top 60 players who earned exempt membership for Segment II from the Latin America Swing, including five of the six tournament winners this season.

    After the North America Swing’s ninth event (CRMC Championship presented by Gertens, Aug. 29-Sep. 1), the top 120 players in the Fortinet Cup will be exempt into the Fortinet Cup Championship (Sep. 5-8), the final event of the season. The season will conclude in Caledon, Ontario, at TPC Toronto with the top 10 players in the Fortinet Cup earning exempt membership into the 2025 Korn Ferry Tour.

    PGA TOUR Americas: 2024 season summary

    Up to 15 Korn Ferry Tour cards are on the line during the 2024 PGA TOUR Americas season. Five conditional memberships will go to the top players from the Latin America (Matthew Anderson, Harry Hillier) and North America (top three players) Swings and the top 10 players in the season-long Fortinet Cup points list will earn exempt membership.
