VICTORIA, British Columbia – Denmark-native Frederik Kjettrup carded a final-round 2-under 68 at The Beachlands Victoria Open presented by Times Colonist to capture his first professional victory in his second career start. Mateo Fernández de Oliveira of Argentina finished in solo second, the best finish of his professional career after shooting the low round of the day, carding a 7-under 63. Clay Feagler finished solo third, posting his best finish since winning the Bupa Championship at Tulum.

Kjettrup held a three-stroke lead heading into Sunday’s final round at Uplands Golf Club, and held off Fernández de Oliveira after back-to-back birdies on Nos. 16 and 17. Kjettrup made a 42-footer on No. 17 which proved to be the winning moment, as the Florida State alum followed his fourth birdie of the day with a par on No. 18 to seal the first victory of his professional career.

This week marks Kjettrup’s second start as a professional, as he made his professional debut at the U.S. Open after earning a spot in the field via Final Qualifying in Alpharetta, Georgia. The U.S. Open was Kjettrup’s first PGA TOUR-sanctioned start and fourth appearance in a professional event. Kjettrup played as an amateur at the DP World Tour’s 2024 Hero Dubai Desert Classic (MC), 2023 Made in HimmerLand (T24/7-under), and the Challenge Tour’s 2022 Frederikshavn Challenge - Presented by HESSEL (T8/11-under).

The 24-year-old spent four collegiate seasons at Florida State University and graduated last month following a decorated career. Kjettrup was a three-time individual champion (2022 All-American Intercollegiate, 2023 Watersound Invitational, 2024 ACC Championship) at Florida State and earned his third All-American recognition this season after being named to the Division I PING All-America Second Team. He became the fourth three-time All-American in program history, alongside Korn Ferry Tour member John Pak and former teammate and PGA TOUR Americas member Brett Roberts. Kjettrup was the second Seminole to win this week after Pak won the Korn Ferry Tour’s Compliance Solutions Championship.

After finishing No. 8 in the 2024 PGA TOUR University Ranking, the Florida State alum earned exempt membership into PGA TOUR Americas and conditional status on the Korn Ferry Tour. Due to the program earning Kjettrup a spot in this week’s field, he touched on the importance of PGA TOUR University and how it has affected the game of collegiate golf.

“PGA TOUR University is a great opportunity for anyone in college right now. It's completely changed the game,” says Kjettrup. “It goes without saying, I wouldn't have been here without PGA TOUR University. It's a great stepping ladder for me from college ranks going into professional life. I can't emphasize how much that means to everyone in college right now.”

Before making his professional debut, Kjettrup represented Denmark numerous times in his amateur career, most notably at the European Amateur Team Championship for four consecutive years (2020-23), in addition to appearances at the World Amateur Team Championship (2022-23), the Bonallack Trophy (2023), and the European Boys Team Championship (2018). Kjettrup was part of the 2021 Denmark team that beat France to earn the country’s first title at the European Amateur Team Championship. He was also a two-year participant for the International Team in the Arnold Palmer Cup (2022, '23), and was part of the 2022 team that beat the USA 33-27 in Switzerland.

In today’s final round, fans showed up with a Danish flag to the first tee. “It's just cool to see. I don't even know how many thousands of miles I am away from home, so it's just cool to see the flag,” says Kjettrup in his post-round interview. “I got to the first tee a little bit early today, the group ahead was still teeing off and I just looked to the side, and I see two people just standing there with a Danish flag. That was definitely special.”

Kjettrup is expected to be in the field at the ATB Classic, the second event of the North America Swing, which will be hosted at Northern Bear Golf Course from June 27-30 in Sherwood Park, Alberta.
