BOGOTÁ, Colombia – Sandy Scott carded an 8-under 64 in the first round of the Inter Rapidísimo Golf Championship to lead by one at Club El Rincón de Cajicá. No. 1-ranked Matthew Anderson is tied for second with Abel Gallegos at 7-under. Two players are tied for fourth entering Friday’s second round in Bogotá, Colombia.

Scott’s opening-round 64 tied his career low and became his 11th consecutive round under-par this season. Scott has made the cut in all five appearances this season, and has posted three consecutive top-10 finishes with a season-best at the KIA Open (T6/-12). He sits atop the leaderboard for the first time this season.

The Scotland-native's success in Colombia began at the 2023 PGA TOUR Latinoamérica Inter Rapidísimo Golf Championship where he finished in solo third to claim the best finish of his career. Scott finished No. 14 in the Totalplay Cup standings to gain membership into the inaugural PGA TOUR Americas season.

Prior to turning professional in 2022, Scott played five seasons of collegiate golf at Texas Tech. He claimed two individual victories (El Macero Classic/2019, The Carmel Cup/2019) and was selected to the Arnold Palmer Cup and Walker Cup in 2019. He won two of his matches in the Arnold Palmer Cup to help lead the International Team to a 33.5-26.5 victory over the United States.

Upon his fifth and final year at Texas Tech, Scott played in only three tournaments before his year was cut short due to a severe wrist injury. Scott’s injury required two surgeries; following the second surgery, Scott was unable to pick up a golf club for 18 months. In November of 2022, Scott became the lone amateur to earn PGA TOUR Latinoamérica status after finishing tied for sixth at the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica Qualifying Tournament at Florida’s Mission Inn Resort & Club.

After the first round of the Inter Rapidísimo Golf Championship, Scott is projected to move into the No. 2 position in the Fortinet Cup. The top-two players at the end of the Latin America Swing will earn conditional membership on the Korn Ferry Tour for the 2025 season. Second-round tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. ET and will run until 1:50 p.m. ET off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees on Friday.
