LIMA, Peru – As a result of his thrilling win at the 69th ECP Brazil Open, Matthew Anderson of Mississauga, Canada, now sits atop the Fortinet Cup Points List. The 24-year-old earned 500 Fortinet Cup points for his efforts at the Rio Olympic Course, where he posted rounds of 63-65-69 for a 54-hole wire-to-wire win at a weather-shortened event.
Coming off a tie for 21st at the Bupa Championship at Tulum and a tie for third at the Totalplay Championship at Atlas Country Club, the first two PGA TOUR Americas events played in Mexico, Anderson landed in Rio ranked eight on Tour. With his season total improving to 650 after his first win as a pro, he now holds a 98-point lead over José de Jesús Rodríguez of Irapuato, Mexico, who slipped down to second with a tie for 27th in Rio.
“It’s a nice position to be in through three events, but no matter what my standing is, I’m not going to change anything. I’m still going to go about my routine (and) my process the exact same way. Hopefully, I end up in a good position at the right time,” said Anderson of his new stature as the PGA TOUR Americas No. 1 player.
Across 11 rounds played in three starts, the University of San Francisco alum leads PGA TOUR Americas with the most rounds in the 60s (7), most sub-par rounds (8), total eagles (5), and par-3 performance. In addition to those stats, his scoring average of 69.09 is the best among players with at least two starts.
Had Anderson missed his 10-footer for birdie at the last, he would have been involved in a playoff for the title with Ollie Osborne and Conner Godsey of the U.S. As a consolation, each of the runners-up earned 245 Fortinet Cup points to move inside the top 10 in the season-long standings.
A solid driver of the ball on a regular basis, Osborne found additional strength in his putting, which led to an impressive bogey-free week in Rio. “I’ve never done that before, so that was nice. I didn’t drop a single shot, so that was a good feeling,” said the 24-year-old SMU alum who had a very unusual break of 40 hours and 14 minutes between the end of his first round, Thursday, and the beginning of his second, Saturday, because of a weather delay.

Rising to No. 6 through three events in the Fortinet Cup standings, Osborne was especially pleased to realize that he has locked up his position inside the Latin Swing top 60. As such, he is among several players who have already secured exempt status for the 10-event North America swing to be played from May through September.
“It means a lot because I didn’t have any job security after these Latin events," said Osborne. "Now I can play pretty freely and try to get as many points as possible."
With no points after back-to-back missed cuts in Mexico, Godsey bounced back in Rio to put together three rounds of 67-65-66. The 32-year-old closed the final round going birdie-birdie-birdie to charge into an eventual two-way tie for second.
“This was huge,” said Godsey, a native of Alabama trying to make a return to the Korn Ferry Tour, where he last played a full season in 2022. “After missing the cut in the first two tournaments, I got in some really good work the last couple weeks off. I’m happy to have played well this (past) week.”

Godsey makes his 2024 Fortinet Cup Points List debut as number seven, only 20 points behind Osborne.
After its first stop in South America, the PGA TOUR Americas’ Latin Swing continues this week with the 2024 Diners Club Peru Open. The fourth event of the season will be played at Los Inkas Golf Club in Lima, Peru, starting on Thursday.
