SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Tom Watson and Andy North opened a four-stroke margin over the teams of Jeff Sluman/Craig Stadler and Brad Bryant/Lonnie Nielsen heading into Sunday's final round in the Legends Division following their 10-under-par 62. The pair has a 36-hole total of 23-under-par 121, which was one shy of the all-time Legends Division 36-hole record of 120 by Sam Snead/Don January in 1980.
Watson and North played another bogey-free round, bringing their run of consecutive holes without a bogey to 144 dating back to 2005.
Gary Koch and Roger Maltbie claimed their second title in the Raphael Division (also won in 2003) with a come-from-behind victory over first-round leaders Bob Charles and Stewart Ginn. Koch and Maltbie, who work as golf analysts for NBC Sports, began the day eight strokes behind Charles and Ginn, but closed with a 12-under-par 60 to win by one stroke over Charles and Ginn. Koch and Maltbie split the first prize of $120,000.
The 12-under-par 60 by Koch and Maltbie set a new Raphael Division scoring mark, breaking the old record of 61 set in 2002 by Bill Rogers and Bruce Lietzke and later matched by Andy North and Tom Watson in 2006 and 2007.
David Edwards had a hole-in-one on the par-3 No. 15.
The winning team in Sunday's Legends Division final will split $450,000 and each player will receive 225 points in the season-long Charles Schwab Cup race. Bernhard Langer leads the race with 851 points followed by Scott Hoch (703), Jay Haas (692), Fred Funk (435) and Brad Bryant (427). Tom Watson is currently in sixth place with 408 points. At the end of the official season, the player earning the most Charles Schwab Cup points will receive a $1 million payout.
